Winning Workplaces: Better for People - Better for Business

Web Polls

April 2007 | Current Webpolls

Vacation Time

Our first Web Poll for April asked respondents how leadership divvies up vacation time – by seniority, on a first-come basis or through another system. Most respondents (nearly 62 percent) said their organization uses the first-come, first-served system, followed by a method other than the two we listed (23 percent). Only 15 percent said their enterprises use a seniority-based system to allocate time off.

According to employees' needs and requirements. Conflicts are worked out between employees.

Communication with All Staff

Our second April poll asked voters to indicate whether or not leadership communicates the status of the organization to employees, through a combination of several commonplace methods. The response shows that most firms' leadership appears to be on the right track: Almost 84 percent of those polled said their leaders communicate with them either routinely or occasionally ("routinely" rated the highest of the two indicators, at almost 58 percent). Still, a little less than a fifth of respondents said their companies never communicate the state of the business to employees.
