This case study describes the costs, benefits and philosophy of a wellness
program at Chattanooga College. The program combines physical wellness with
spiritual, emotional, intellectual, social, environmental and occupational
well being. Ninety-four percent of the employees are satisfied with the
program (up from 75 percent the previous year) and more employees reported
that they had health screenings. The program costs $119,860/year for 575
employees. The article shows statistics from a Hewitt Associates survey
of 1,020 U.S. companies indicating an increase in the percentage of companies
offering wellness programs from 1992 to 1997.
