According to this Accenture survey of executives, most business leaders
believe that their workforces lack the key organizational capabilities needed
to address critical marketplace challenges. Among the key findings:
- Just 20 percent of executives felt that three-quarters or more of their
staff understood their organizations’ strategic goals.
- Only slightly more (22 percent) believed that three-quarters or more
of their employees understand how their jobs impact the achievement of
these goals.
- Sixty-five percent said that developing effective leadership capabilities
was a key to their success, but only 8 percent felt that their organization
had succeeded in this area.
- Forty-nine percent cited adapting to change as important, but only 8
percent felt they were effective on this matter.
- Forty-four percent said that the ability to sense shifts in the business
environment before competitors was crucial, but only 9 percent felt that
they were succeeding in this area.
- Forty-three percent cited an ability to engage and align multiple stakeholders
as a key to success, but again far fewer (14 percent) felt their organizations
had done a good job in this respect.
Accenture sampled 244 executives in six countries for the study.
