"eHR: e-Learning in the Knowledge Economy: Industry Outlook and Implications for Business"
Editors
Watson Wyatt Worldwide, July 2002.
This study is part of Watson Wyatt's larger research project on the effectiveness
of electronically based human resources management tools. The report is
based on interviews with more than 600 companies across the United States.
Examining these companies' e-learning strategies, the study defines all
of the virtual training tools currently in use and their cost- and training-effectiveness.
The report shows that e-learning's popularity is due to its low cost, on-demand
training features and global reach. The research firm International Data
Center (IDC) foresees organizations spending $11.4 billion in 2003 to train
their workforce via the Internet. By 2004, IDC research predicts employees
will be trained in traditional settings, which rely on printed material
and instructor-led classes, just 35 percent of the time.
The report predicts that e-training is the wave of the future, that it will
change how employee training is delivered in many organizations to ensure
a knowledgeable and productive workforce.
