Yesterday the stock market opinion and analysis site SeekingAlpha.com reported that San Antonio, TX-based Rackspace, Inc. has filed for an IPO which seeks $400 million. As part of this effort, the company's chairman, Graham Weston, who Winning Workplaces honored as a Best Boss in 2006, is busy renovating his childhood mall into the managed hosting firm's new headquarters, fit for their current staff of over 2,000 employees. (When we interviewed Weston for our Success Story on the company, he told us he wanted to put his office in the old Orange Julius space.)
To put the company's growth in perspective, they've added 100 percent more staff than they had when we honored Weston at our 2006 Best Bosses Conference in October of that year. In fact, the Seeking Alpha article notes that they're on track to double that growth over the next four years.
After an unsuccessful push to go public eight years ago (thwarted by the dot-com bust), Winning Workplaces congratulates Rackspace for investing in its workforce and maintaining its cultural values as it has grown, including refining their innovative "Fanatical Support" mantra. Their commitment to improving service at the same pace as technology has no doubt contributed to their ability to reach new customers and involve more stakeholders, as the IPO filing shows.
