Winning Workplaces® is a not-for-profit providing consulting, training and information to help small and midsize organizations create great workplaces. The organization was founded by one of the families who owned auto parts
manufacturer, Fel-Pro, Inc., which was nationally recognized for its innovative
people practices and outstanding financial performance.
Our Mission
The mission of Winning Workplaces is to help organizations create great
workplaces.
Our Goals
Winning Workplaces' goal is to provide small and midsize employers with
proven, practical, and affordable people practices. Too often, the information
and resources needed to create a high-performance workplace are out of reach
for all but the largest organizations. Winning Workplaces is changing that
by offering employers affordable consulting, training and information. We
help employers assess needs and develop strategies to improve their workplace
practices.
Our Framework
In the past fifteen years, a significant amount of research has identified
the workplace characteristics of high-performance organizations. This research
demonstrates that these workplace cultures share six fundamental characteristics
or Building Blocks:
- Trust, Respect & Fairness
In high-performance workplaces, employees are respected, both as employees
and as human beings; there is a fundamental sense of trust between management
and staff; and workers are treated fairly and consistently.
- Open Communications
There is open and honest communication within the organization, from management
to employees, from employees to management, and across different work
units of the organization.
- Rewards & Recognition
Employees are sufficiently rewarded and recognized, in monetary and non-monetary
ways, for their contributions and accomplishments.
- Learning & Development
There are opportunities for employees to develop new skills, and to advance
in the organization as their performance and desire dictates.
- Teamwork & Involvement
There is a sense of teamwork and collaboration within the organization,
with employees feeling that they have the opportunity to contribute directly
to the organization’s success, and to the larger community.
- Work/Life Balance
The organization’s policies, practices and culture affirmatively
help employees balance the competing demands of work and family.
Our consulting, training and information are designed to help small and
midsize businesses address and enhance these qualities, creating workplaces
that are better for people and better for business.
